The University of Texas at Dallas

Comets Serve Program

Purpose

Now more than ever, colleges and universities across the country are taking stock at the vital role their work plays in their local communities. The UTD Comets Serve employment program provides supplemental funding for local non-profit, government, and community-based organizations to hire UTD students for part-time employment. Comets Serve participants are students getting a chance to serve the local community while getting paid work experience.

Program

Students participating in the Comets Service Program must qualify for the Federal-Work Study Program. Eligibility for this self-help aid program is determined by the Office of Financial Aid and requires completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®).

Students who do not qualify for Federal Work-Study funds can still be a part of other on-campus employment opportunities including UTD|EXP and traditional hourly on-campus employment. Students can also engage with the Office of Student Volunteerism for opportunities to pitch in around the greater Dallas area and beyond.

Students cannot be assigned to any religious affiliated organizations or political campaigns in accordance with regular Federal Work-Study participation guidelines.

Employer Partners

Employers participating in the UTD Comets Serve Program include Kids University, InspirED, National Math and Science Initiative and Peer Health Exchange.
