How to Report an Internship
Once you have accepted your internship offer, you are required to submit an experience request through Handshake, ORION, or the ECS webpage. Please note that each UTD school may report experiences differently. More information can be found below:
Note: Students on F-1 visa cannot engage in volunteering, training, or working until CPT is authorized.
Important Internship Reporting Information
All JSOM students must report internships via ORION. Please refer to the JSOM website for more information.
All ECS students must report internships through Simplicity. Please refer to the ECS website for more information.
Please note that the University Career Center (UCC) does not process internships for JSOM or ECS students. All internship-related questions should be directed to your respective school.
All NSM, IS, EPPS, BBS, and AHT students will submit an experience request through Handshake. Here are the steps to report your internship:
Log into Handshake at utdallas.joinhandshake.com using your NetID and Password
- From the top menu bar select Career Center > Experiences > Request an Experience
- Choose the appropriate Experience Type and the Term in which your internship will be taking place
- Fill out the remainder of the request form paying close attention to all questions
- Once you have finished the request form and clicked submit, you MUST upload your detailed job description, offer letter with all required information and any other documentation required by your academic department. To do this, click the New Attachment button on the left side of your screen and choose the appropriate documents
Please note: You cannot earn retroactive Internship credit.
For example, if we are in FALL 2025 and you completed a SUMMER 2025 internship, you may not submit the experience as the dates are in the past.
Please see below for helpful tools to assist you in this process:
Once you have submitted your experience request and all required documentation, please allow 7-10 business days for your experience to be approved. During the approval process you may be contacted if additional information or changes are needed. You will be notified once the experience has been successfully approved.

Transcript Notation
If you are not interested in obtaining academic credit for an internship, and/or you do not meet eligibility requirements, you may opt to receive transcript notation for your experience. Transcript notation is an official note by the Registrar on a UT Dallas transcript that shows an internship was completed. The employment period and transcript notation period must be in the same semester.
Transcript notation is not available for international students.
If interested in receiving transcript notation for an internship experience you must still request an experience in Handshake. You will also be required to write a short reflection paper at the end of the semester. Once you submit your experience request in Handshake, you will receive further instructions from the University Career Center.
Please note: You cannot earn retroactive Transcript Notation for internship experiences.
