Job Search Strategies

Identify Global-Friendly Employers: Some companies are more open to hiring international students. Resources like MyVisaJobs, H1Date and H1BGrader can help you research employers who sponsor H-1B visas.

Networking: Connecting with alumni and professionals through LinkedIn can provide valuable job search insights.

Career Fairs & Employer Events: Participate in career fairs and employer events such as information sessions and networking mixers to build connections and explore job opportunities. Please note that career fairs and employer events are an opportunity to network, jobs are not offered on the spot.

Internships & CPT Opportunities: Work closely with the UTD International Student Services Office (ISSO) to understand CPT (Curricular Practical Training) requirements for internships.

Attend Workshops: Attend events offered by the UCC and Intercultural Programs (ICP) to help you thrive in the U.S workplace.

Employment Authorization & Visa Information

Understanding U.S. work authorization is crucial for international students. Below are key visa categories and resources:

  • Curricular Practical Training (CPT): Allows international students to gain work experience before graduation.
  • Optional Practical Training (OPT): A one-year work authorization after graduation, with a 24-month extension for STEM majors.
  • H-1B Visa: A common work visa for international graduates seeking long-term employment in the U.S.
