Concerned about whether your student is taking the steps they should to prepare for a career after graduation?
Supporting your Comet is important to you, and to us. We are here to make sure that your student has all the resources they need to create the successful future of their dreams. Plus, all of our support is free for enrolled students.
Here are ways that you can encourage your students to take charge of their college experience and their career:
Jump into Handshake
Handshake is your student’s one-stop shop for browsing job and internship postings, connecting with employers, and building career readiness.
Students can:
- Find and apply for on-campus student worker jobs (both work-study and non-work-study)
- Meet with experts to improve resume, interviewing, and networking skills
- Locate and apply for internships and jobs
- Attend professional development events and workshops
- Explore companies and network through employer mixers and site visits
Schedule a 1-on-1 Strategy Session with their School’s Consultant
Our consultants will meet with your students to help them develop a resume that is up to the latest industry standards, practice interviewing, and sharpen their job search techniques.
We are also here to provide career advising support. Common questions that come up are:
- Do I enjoy my studies enough to pursue a career in this full-time?
- Where can I go with this degree?
- Do I have enough experience to stand out in a job or internship application?
- How can I get more industry-related experience while in school?
If your student has similar questions, we recommend that they meet with our team.
Join a Club or Student Organization
Getting involved can boost your student’s network, bring clarity to the career exploration process, and provide resume-boosting experiences.
With over 300 student organizations at UTD, there are ample opportunities for your student to pursue excellence with fellow Comets. Students can join clubs that tap into their hobbies or professional student organization chapters.
Skills students can gain from active club participation:
- Leadership and professional communication
- Professional development from guest employers and speakers
- Mentorship
- Projects and activities with relevant teamwork opportunities or industry-related tasks
